This guide is operational, not legal, customs or tax advice. Karlholm Logistics acts as warehouse operator and is not your customs representative, importer of record, VAT representative or customs-warehouse operator unless such a role has been separately verified and agreed.

Build the operating model before the first shipment

The strongest market-entry projects separate responsibilities early. Your tax and customs advisers define the legal and fiscal framework; freight and customs partners move goods across borders; the 3PL operates the physical warehouse and fulfillment flow once goods are ready for the agreed warehouse process.

  • Market-entry design – define first markets, sales channels, customer types and expected volumes.
  • Import-to-warehouse flow – agree who controls customs, freight handover, delivery appointment and receiving data.
  • Scale path – start with an operating model that can later support further markets.
  1. Choose launch markets and define B2B, direct-to-consumer or mixed sales channels.
  2. Confirm importer, EORI, VAT and customs representation requirements.
  3. Select inbound routes and define where risk and responsibility hand over.
  4. Prepare the Swedish 3PL onboarding, integrations and opening stock. See onboarding.
  5. Launch the first market with measurable service levels and stock controls.
  6. Add countries and channels without rebuilding the core warehouse operation.

When Sweden makes sense as a stock location

Sweden should not be presented as the automatically best warehouse location for every European strategy. It is most compelling when Swedish customers – and possibly the other Nordic countries – are important early markets for you. Which transport options exist from a Swedish warehouse to other countries, and at what delivery times, has to be assessed for your order profile and agreed with the carriers before you promise anything to customers. Frequently asked questions

Do we need a Swedish subsidiary before using a warehouse?

Not necessarily for the physical warehouse relationship, but your tax, VAT, customs and contracting structure must be assessed for your specific model.

Should logistics or tax setup come first?

They should be designed together. Warehouse decisions affect where inventory is held and shipped from, which can have VAT and customs consequences.

Can we launch in Sweden first and expand later?

Yes. A staged approach is often operationally easier, because the warehouse, data and service model can be stabilised before further markets are added.
